The scale is universal in meaning, symbolizing the impartiality and equality of all before the law. Themis , the goddess of justice and law, well-known for her clear-sightedness, typically holds a sword in one hand and the scales of justice in the other. In the Environmental Commission's logo, this scale is depicted in a few simple clean strokes. The image of the leaf is used as a universal symbol for the environment. As an island nation, issues affecting the environment are key to our future sustenance, and are the raison d'etre for the Commission's role.
